Snorkeling & Scuba Diving in Los Cabos

The coast line from Cabo to San José has some of the The beautiful beach at Santa Maria Baybest snorkeling anywhere. Santa Maria Bay is a great spot for this as is Chileno Reef, both of which can be accessed by land or sea. The waters at Land's End (Lover's Beach) are also good on days when the Pacific swell is small. You can get there by water taxi. (The Pacific side isn't recommended for water sports because of its strong surf and undertow.) Once there you will find vividly colored tropical fish, and around Land's End you'll find sea lions lounging on the rocks. To get home, flag down a boat. Don't leave too late, as most boats return to the marina at about 4 p.m.

Snorkel tours can be arranged right on Playa El Medano (where Villa Del Palmar Cabo is located) or from several tour desks. This area is a natural marine sanctuary and home to schools of angelfish, triggerfish, goatfish and parrot fish, to mention a few. All wildlife in this area is protected and spear fishing, collecting or fishing is not permitted. However, you can explore and take photographs.

All scuba divers will enjoy the waters near Land's End. Visibility ranges from 30 to 50 feet in winter months, and over 100 feet from April through October. The North and South Wall are popular canyons with steep granite walls and ledges 100 feet down. The Abyss, about 100 feet from the arch, is recommended for advanced divers only. The Sandfalls, a 90 foot dive originally documented by Jacques Cousteau, starts at Pelican Rock and drops 1200 feet. This canyon makes the Bahia San Lucas among the deepest bays in the world.
